A Simple Guide To Changing Your Genesis Coupe Shift Knob
28th Sep 2018
When you do a once-over of your Hyundai Genesis Coupe, you probably don't single out the shift knob as a problem area. However, once the Genesis Coupe shift knob looks or feels out of place, it will affect every aspect of your driving. Changing out shift knobs is a fairly easy process, and it can make a noticeable difference in your Hyundai Genesis Coupe interior.
How To Replace Your Genesis Coupe Shift Knob
A loose shift knob not only makes for uncomfortable driving but for very unsafe driving. Even if your current knob is in good shape, you could upgrade its look by installing a more interesting shift knob, such as the Mishimoto Teardrop shift knob, the MXP Titanium shift knob, or NRG "The Bat" style shift knob. The replacement process is a simple one and should only take you a few minutes to complete.
- Use The Emergency Brake: The first step is to set the emergency brake into gear so that the car is prevented from moving or shifting while you work on it. After offsetting any potential dangers with the emergency brake in place, put the car in neutral. Doing so will give you the best possible control over the gear shift as you work.
- Unscrew The Old Knob: Disconnecting the former shift knob can be done in two different ways. Some knobs are held on to the gear shift by a threading that runs through the bottom of the knob and into the shifter. With this design, you can turn the knob in a counterclockwise direction and remove it. Other vehicles have a screw that holds the knob onto the shifter. If this is the case, use an Allen wrench to remove the screw and then pull the knob straight up to remove it.
- Install The New Knob: The method of installing your new shift knob will have to reflect the method by which you removed it. If you unthreaded the knob from the shifter, you will have to rethread the new knob on. Alternatively, if you took out the screw to remove the knob, you will have to use an appropriately-sized screw to install the new knob. No matter which method you use, tighten the knob to make sure it is secure. While the emergency brake is still in place, test the new knob by shifting through the gears a few times. As long as your Genesis Coupe shift knob feels secure and good in your grip, you are all set.
