As the Hyundai Genesis Coupe ages it is important to pay attention to condition of the fuel system. Often upkeep of the fuel system gets overlooked. Do you know when was the last time your fuel filter has been replaced, if ever?
The fuel pump and filter of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe sits inside the fuel tank underneath the rear seat cushion.
When it comes to modifying your Hyundai Genesis Coupe replacing the fuel pump for an aftermarket high flow fuel pump should not overlooked when trying to achieve high horsepower.
Removing the Fuel Pump Assembly:
Make sure the car has less than 1/2 tank of fuel when doing this.
Remove the rear seat cushion.
Remove the service cover of the fuel pump.
Disconnect the fuel pump connector (A).
Idle the engine and wait until fuel in the feed line is exhausted.
After engine stops, turn the ignition OFF.
Disconnect the fuel feed tube quick-connector (A) and the suction tube quick connector (B).
Installation Torque: 2.2 lb-ft.
Remove the bolts (C) that hold the fuel pump retainer to the fuel tank.
After the bolts are removed you can lift out the fuel pump. Do not forgot the orientation that the pump was facing when in the tank. It is possible to install clocked to the wrong direction.
Be very careful of the fuel level sensor. You will need to lift out the fuel pump assembly then tilt it to get the fuel level sensor arm out safely.
Some fuel may spill out of the fuel filter assembly. Put down a fuel resistant material in the interior so you do not spill any on the carpet.
The fuel pump assembly sits on top of a rubber o-ring that is on top of the tank. Do not misplace that.
Replacing the Fuel Pump:
Disconnect the electric pump wiring connector (a) and the fuel sender connector (B).
Remove the fuel sender (C).
Disconnect the fuel feed line (A) from the fuel filter.
Separate the head assembly (B) with the hooks (C) released.
Disconnect the regulator hose (A) from the fuel filter (B).
Separate the fuel filter (B) from the reservoir (D) with the hooks (C) released.
You will now have access to replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter.
Installation is the reverse.
Removal of the Sub Fuel Sender:
Remove the rear seat.
Remove the service cover for the sub fuel sender (Passenger Side).
Disconnect the sub fuel sender connector (A).
Disconnect the suction tube quick-connector (B).
Remove the sub fuel sender from the fuel tank after removing the retaining bolts (C).
Installation Torque: 2.2 lb-ft.
Be careful removing the sender as to not damage the fuel level arm.
Replace the pickup sock if dirty.
